Aloe Vera Gel - Organic
(Aloe barbadensis)
Organically grown Aloe barbadensis miller (inner leaf gel), processed water, Carrageenan (Irish moss), less than 0.5% Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate

This Aloe Vera Gel has thick consistency like jelly, due to carrageenan. We prefer products that do not have carrageenan, but for those who wish for a thick aloe, this is the typical thickener. According to the Environmental Working Group, Skin Deep, carrageenan has a low risk of cancer, allergies, immunotoxicity, and developmental and reproductive toxicity.

Note: Sadly, our previous Aloe Vera farm source has ceased producing aloe. They produced an outstanding quality and consistency that has been difficult to replace. After much research, we believe this Aloe Vera has comparable quality with a thicker consistency due to the addition of carrageenan (derived from Irish moss), but due to this addition, we do not suggest oral use. It is an industry-standard for all aloe vera manufacturers to add preservatives to aloe vera gel to ensure the safety and longevity of the product. We have searched far and wide for a quality product with minimal preservatives that aligns with our commitment to health and safety.

Grown and produced in the USA. The gel-like inner leaf is ground and cold pressed for a smooth, silky texture that is not at all sticky once it is completely rubbed in.

Our Aloe Vera is grown and processed naturally, and since it is not refined in anyway, we expect it to be naturally cloudy to some extent.  All the properties of the Aloe Vera plant remain in the finished product, and we guarantee its quality and freshness.

Shelf life is up to 2 years if refrigerated.

Suggestions:
  • Refrigeration will extend shelf life. Allow to come to room temperature before using.
  • Oxygen is a big enemy to shelf life. Keep caps snug.
  • Write the date of purchase on the label in permanent marker.
  • Avoid contaminating the Aloe Vera with fingers or pipettes inserted into the bottle. Unsterilized items such as fingers, cotton balls and pipettes that come into contact with the oils will potentially contaminate them. Pour off the quantity you will need into a smaller container or bottle and work from that.
"The results indicate that the Aloes improve the absorption of both vitamins C and E. The absorption is slower and the vitamins last longer in the plasma with the Aloes. Aloe is the only known supplement to increase the absorption of both of these vitamins and should be considered as a complement to them."

According to research shared by Robert Tisserand in his Skin Care series, using a gel base (such as aloe vera gel) allows essential oil constituents to absorb more than 20x better than a carrier oil.

Aloe Vera may support, aid, ease, soothe, reduce, calm, relax, promote and/or maintain healthy function of the following:
Antiseptic - inhibits bacteria, fungi, viruses
Acne
Anti-inflammatory
Antiviral
Astringent
Burns
Digestive - heartburn, laxative
Hydrate - moisturizes by attracting water from the environment into the skin which increases skin hydration
Lichen Planus
Skin - anti-aging, astringent, increase elasticity, increase softness, protect from radiation
Wounds - minor abrasions, irritations

Aloe Vera makes a wonderful carrier for the oils. Read this article for more information.

Linda's Favorite DIY Hand Cleanser - make in small batches to last a couple weeks
2 oz spray or flip-top bottle (60 ml)
54 mL aloe vera gel
6 mL essential oils - there are about 30 drops per ml. (Citrus Quench is our favorite blend)
1 drop GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) optional
(Refrigerate when not in use to increase shelf life)
*For a "sanitizer," you will want to use alcohol. Vodka works well with aloe vera, but Everclear does not, as the proof is too high and causes clumping issues. If needed for 'sanitizing' purposes, the CDC recommends using 70% alcohol (see recipe below).

DIY "Sanitizer" Hand Cleanser
CDC recommends 70% alcohol for sanitization.
1oz PET plastic spray or flip-top bottle
23mLs 190-proof grain alcohol (Everclear)
10-20 drops essential oils (1-2%)
7mLs - Carrier of choice. Fractionated Coconut oil is a good choice because it is thin, has a long shelf life and does not tend to stain clothing. Aloe Vera does not work well with Everclear, as the proof of alcohol is too high and it will clump.
Add the essential oils to the alcohol first, then add the carrier.

Making Personal-Use Hand Cleansers
It is felt that water-based cleansers need a preservative, thus we make them in small batches to last a couple weeks and avoid the need to add preservatives.

Preservatives inhibit microbial growth, which is a tendency with water-based products. Vitamin E, Citric acid, Grapefruit seed extract and Rosemary oleoresin extract are sometimes considered preservatives, but Rebecca Silence, certified aromatherapist says: “they are not preservatives and will not prevent microbial growth.”

The following is from Rebecca Silence (from Aromatherapy for Natural Living by Aromahead Institute): "Whenever you make a product that contains water as one of the ingredients, such as lotion, cream, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and you plan to sell it, you should use a preservative."

Whenever you use any water-based (aqueous) ingredients, such as aloe, hydrosol, or honey, and you plan to sell it, you should use a preservative.

If you are making a product for personal use only, which you will use up quickly, then you may choose not to use a preservative.

Andrea Butje (Aromahead Institute) does not use preservatives because there are no such things as 'natural' preservatives. This is a personal choice, and instead, she teaches how to make water-based products in small, fresh batches for personal use only.

There is no way to say exactly how long unpreserved water-based products will last. When you carefully follow all the steps listed below, you should generally expect that your water-based products could last for 1-2 months. In my personal experience, I’ve had aloe-based cleansers last for 2 months, and unpreserved lotions last for about 1 month. Your mileage may vary.

TIPS from Rebecca Silence:
Don’t sell your water-based products.
Prepare the water-based formulas under scrupulously clean conditions.
Clean your work surfaces and utensils with grain alcohol.
Use only sanitized containers.
Use distilled water.
Use containers that allow you to dispense without dipping into the product, such as a pump or disc-top bottle.
Store the products in a cool, dark place (preferably refrigerate)
Make products in small batches - about what you might use in 1-2 weeks.
Watch and sniff for signs of spoilage, including odor, color, texture, cloudiness or separation. A cloudy blob floating in your product means it’s time for a fresh batch!

Testimonies
1. I just discovered a 'deodorant' that really works for me. I use Lymphatic Cleanse and Aloe Vera gel. I squirt some gel into my palm, add several drops of Lymphatic Cleanse blend, mix and coat my underarms and other lymph areas. This is very comfortable on large areas of skin. I let the gel dry before dressing. I'm so happy for a cheap, simple and beneficial deodorant that really works! - Cynthia

2. I have knee pain. I use Deep Ease and add Nerve Pain to it. I use Aloe Vera as a carrier. It brings relief. I purchased the spray also. It works very quickly after the spray. I don't take medication; I deal mainly with herbs and essential oils. - Mary

3. Yesterday we were at the park, and when we weren't looking, our 2 year old took his shoes off. All of a sudden we heard horrific screams coming from him. He had walked onto the "safety mat" on the playground and his feet were being burned. He couldn't figure out how to get off of the mat. His big sister ran over and picked him up. We quickly put his feet in some very cold water for about 20-30 minutes. I put some Lavender on as soon as we got in the car, but he screamed the whole 45 minutes home. He had first and second degree burns over the bottoms of both feet. As soon as we got home, we put Aloe Vera gel on his feet and covered them with non-stick pads. We changed the dressing several times last night and did one final dressing before bedtime. This morning the blisters had drained and the first degree burns were mostly healed up. We dressed it again with Aloe Vera and non stick pads, and he was able to take a few steps. It has been amazing to see how fast he has healed. I am so thankful to the Lord that we have been given the resources to help our bodies heal. - RaShell

4. I continue to enjoy your Wrinkle Ease, I diluted with aloe vera gel as I am still struggling with the hot flashes and the Wrinkle Ease with aloe vera gel is more refreshing to me than with a carrier oil. - Joselyn

5. Our 1-year-old daughter got into our little dog's (he's 15) food bowl and was bitten on her hand last night before we could top her. Her hand swelled up and turned purple. We cleaned the wound and soaked her hand in epsom salts with Lavender and gave her arnica homeopathic pellets. Then we put Mercy (diluted w/carrier) on it, and have been praying for healing. The next morning her hand is still swollen, red (not purple) and warm to the touch. After soaking it and applying essential oils oils and PRAYERS, she's doing great! To encourage her to soak her hand in silver sol, lavender and epsom salt, my wife put water beads in the bottom of a mixing bowl for her to play with so she'd keep her hand in the water. We soaked her hand 2x a day and applied aloe vera and Mercy blend every couple of hours. The first 3 days we gave her Arnica and applied gel to the back of her hand. We gave her Apis Mel homeopathic 2 times the second day which really helped as well as the Ledum homeopathic. Thank you again for following up and all the prayers, may you and your family be blessed! - Anthony
