Heritage Whisper Diffuser with Variable Output and Timer built in
Made in the USA - 1 year manufacturing defect warranty
If the motor is damaged due to misuse, the manufacturer will typically be able to repair/replace the motor for about $40.

The Whisper Diffuser is a break through in cool diffusion technology, which produces a micro-fine vapor, preserving the natural essence of essential oils without heat or water.

Features

  • Directional control spout and sound reducer
  • Nebulizer atomizes a micro-fine essential oil vapor of approximately 1-3 microns
  • Bottle top "quick change" system allows oil changes without mixing or spilling
  • 15 mL bottle capacity for extended operation and low maintenance intervals
  • Adjustable clamp for bottle diameter variations
  • Tip-resistant base for added stability
  • Powerful, fully adjustable pump delivers up to 5 pounds of pressure
  • Strong, one-piece, compact molded body for increased service life, durability and space efficiency
  • Built in filter to clean the air and keep dust out
  • BPA, Arsenic, Lead Free Tubing made in the USA

The Whisper model features a compact motor that has an acoustically dampened iso-cell design, making it quieter than many similar atomizing diffusers. It uses a standard 15 mL-size essential oil bottle with an atomizer to diffuse 100%, undiluted essential oil. This feature eliminates the fragile nature of other nebulizing diffusers without sacrificing quality and effectiveness.

The Whisper has variable controls for time on/off and volume of output. The Whisper, Pro and Breeze model diffusers use a cold-air jet pump to force essential oil molecules through an atomizer and into a micro-fine vapor, yet the chemical composition of the oils is retained. The vapor reaches up to a 1000 square foot area and stays suspended, for up to two hours. The motor can be placed several feet from the nebulizing bottle, so that you can, for example, place the motor out of reach or sight of little ones and yet have the nebulizing bottle right by their bedside. Having tried a number of diffusers over the years, in our opinion, there is nothing that tops this one.

The advanced interval timers allow complete control of how long the unit is "on" or "off" as well as volume of output. The higher the output, the louder the sound of air passing through the orifice on the atomizer will be. On low, it's very quiet. It is extremely effective at atomizing essential oils into a micro-fine vapor that is dispersed into the air for better absorption into the lungs. The quick change atomizer system makes it easy to switch oils to be diffused, and there are no delicate glass parts to worry about breaking or getting clogged.

The atomizer breaks the oil down to 1-3 microns on low or high settings. The micro mist will stay suspended in the air for 2-3 hours at a level of 4-6 feet in the air and will ultimately evaporate rather than settling on surfaces, nevertheless, we strongly encourage you to protect the surface where you place the atomizer.

Running the diffuser at high output pressures and short timing intervals maximize particle breakdown and therapeutic benefit.

Timer and Output Controls
The Whisper has a timer that controls the how long the diffuser runs (maximum 20 minutes) and a separate timer that controls the how long the diffuser is off (up to 20 minutes off). It will run 24/7 until you turn it off. While it is best to unplug when not in use, no harm is done if the diffuser runs continuously, even if the essential oil bottle has been emptied.

Usage Rate
As a point of reference, if you turn the output to maximum and run it for an hour, it will use about 3 mLs of an essential oil like Orange or Lemon, which are light oils that are consumed more quickly than others. The manufacturer says it will diffuse about 1.2 to 1.7 ml per hour depending upon the pump pressure. On one occasion when struggling with respiratory congestion, we ran our Pro/Whisper diffuser on medium low for 8 hours nightly with the cycle on for 5 minutes and off for 20 or so minutes, and a 15 mL bottle of Respiratory Relief lasted about a week. We have run a bottle of Respiratory Relief on full output settings, always on and virtually no time off, and 8 hours later we had diffused 1/2 of the bottle.

The diffuser is "gravity fed" in the sense that there is nothing forcing the oil up through the straw to be atomized in the atomizer. The oil is its heaviest when the bottle is full. Heavier oils will diffuse slower because of their thicker viscosity and thinner oils diffuse faster. When the bottle is at the halfway point, the diffusion rate goes down because it is not as heavy.

It does not harm the pump to run continuously, even if you run out of oil. Like a pump for a fish tank, these pumps are designed to run for years.

I add citrus oils to the thicker oil that remains near the bottom of the bottle. There are times when I like to change the oil or start over. When this is the case, I add a little food-grade alcohol to the thick oil in the bottle, shake it well and add it to a homemade cleaning product.

Usage rates have several variables to consider. Each diffuser pump has a range of pressure that is allowed when they are built and tested. The higher the pressure, the faster the oil will diffuse. The lower the pressure, the slower the diffusion.

The Whisper and the Pro have the same pump, but the way the Whisper pump is encased to make it quieter makes the diffusion rate lower. The manufacturer doesn't have any usage rates on the Whisper, but they have tested the Pro and feel that we can assume the rates would be similar. Not exact, but similar.

The usage rates with the Pro are as follows; Usage rates when the bottle is full ranges from .81ml - 1ml per hour on the highest end of usage that we can calculate. The settings for the test were: 1) Run time on the highest setting, 2) Rest time off, and 3) Full output. When the bottle reaches the halfway point, the diffusion rate goes down to .7ml per hour.

Please Note: These settings are not for normal home or therapeutic purposes. The settings that were tested are used for mold remediation or for someone who has a larger space, such as commercial businesses. Typical settings would be 5 minutes run time, 20 minutes rest time and output at about 1/4 of the way on.

A fun thing to know about our atomizing diffusers is that you don't need to run it a lot in order to receive therapeutic value from the oils. For every 15 minutes that you diffuse, the oil will stay suspended in the air for about 75 minutes. So the essential oils will be around for a while after you shut it off.

Mold Remediation
Running the unit on HIGH continuously the Pro diffuses approximately 20-24 ml within a 24 hour time frame. The Whisper should be similar.

Therapeutic Benefits
In his Essential Oil Master Safety Class (2018), Robert Tisserand said:
"In terms of therapeutic benefits, short-term diffusion and/or inhalation is shown to be more beneficial than if the essential oil is vaporized constantly. For intense inhalation, sessions of up to 15 minutes are recommended. For environmental diffusion, up to 60 minutes per session is advisable." Another suggestion is to set the diffuser to cycle on for 10 minutes and off for 20 minutes. Following these suggestions will prove to be more beneficial than continuous diffusion and will help prevent olfactory fatigue.

“Intermittent diffusion is much more effective, as well as being safer, than continuous diffusion. Intermittent means 30-60 minutes on, then 30-60 minutes off. This is because our body, especially our nervous system, habituates after this length of time. With continuous diffusion, while benefits do not increase, there is evidence that the body becomes stressed in various ways. However, very low levels of diffusion, so the essential oil is barely noticeable, are fine anywhere, for any length of time.”  Robert Tisserand

- Higher pressure means more abundance of micro-fine oil droplets less than 3 microns (the size required to penetrate deep into the olfactory system and enter directly into the blood stream.
- Smaller particles stay suspended in the air for longer periods so you get more health benefits from less oil.
- Short run time (on time) allows complete control of how much oil is diffused per hour.
- Rest time (off time) gives you the option to conserve oil like never before.

Comparing Hopewell Diffusers
Breeze: Has variable output control, but no timer. The motor is separate from the atomizer, which allows the motor to be on the floor and the atomizer on a night stand. If the atomizer is tipped over, the oil is not likely to seep back into the motor. We strongly suggest you purchase a timer for this model so you can easily control when it cycles on/off.
Comes with a 1-year manufacturing-defect warranty.

Pro: Compact, all-in-one thus more portable. Has a variable timer and output control. If this gets tipped over, the oil is very likely going to seep into the motor and cause it to fail. Repair by the manufacturer is typically $40. Comes with a 5-year manufacturing-defect warranty.

Whisper: Very quiet. Has a variable timer and output control like the Pro. The motor is separate from the atomizer, which allows the motor to be on the floor and the atomizer on a night stand. If the atomizer is tipped over, the oil is not likely to seep back into the motor.
Comes with a 1-year manufacturing-defect warranty.

Aroma Scents: A Humidification/Vaporization diffuser allows you to enjoy a pleasant aroma in your home and avoid toxic commercial candles, air freshener sprays and deodorizers. It provides a safe, uplifting aroma as well as some health benefits. Due to mixing essential oils with water, it has more of a limited therapeutic effect since the heavy water molecules will quickly carry the essential oil to the floor.

Compare Vaporizing Diffusers with Atomization Diffusers
Humidification/Vaporization (such as Hopewell's Aroma Scents): A Humidification/Vaporization diffuser allows you to enjoy a pleasant aroma in your home and avoid toxic commercial candles, air freshener sprays and deodorizers. It provides a safe, uplifting aroma as well as some health benefits. Due to mixing essential oils with water, it has more of a limited therapeutic effect since the heavy water molecules will quickly carry the essential oil to the floor.

Nebulization/Atomization (such as the Hopewell's Breeze, Pro and Whisper): Using a diffuser that atomizes 100% essential oil as a mist into the air is an excellent way to provide both aroma and therapeutic benefits with essential oils. It does not alter the chemical composition of the oils as it breaks down pure essential oil molecules into a micro mist vapor. It produces a particle size small enough for the lungs and body to absorb them rapidly. The atomized mist hangs in the air for lengths of time, thus these diffusers are best used with timers for low output and short run times, which also economizes the use of the essential oil diffused.

WHY DIFFUSE?

Other than simply inhaling the oils, the easiest and simplest way of putting essential oils into the air for inhalation is to use an aromatic diffuser. A cold-air diffuser uses room-temperature air to mist the oil up through a nebulizer/atomizer. This creates a micro-fine mist that is dispersed into the air. The oils will then remain suspended for several hours to freshen and improve the quality of the air. The antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic properties of essential oils may help reduce bacteria, fungus and mold. Essential oils, when diffused, have been found to reduce the amount of airborne chemicals. Many essential oils, such as Lemongrass, Lemon and our blends of Purify, Citrus Blessing, Immune Support and Plague Defense are highly antibacterial and may effectively eliminate airborne germs and bacteria.

If the goal is to get the essential oil into the bloodstream, inhalation is the most efficient way to deliver essential oils to the whole internal system of the body as they cross into the bloodstream through the lungs. The internal lining of the respiratory system is a mucous membrane, which is thinner than our external layers of skin, so inhaling essential oil has much quicker access than topical application. This rapid absorption into the bloodstream has a direct effect on infection and congestion within the respiratory system and on the central nervous system. Also, inhaled oils interact with cells at the back of the nose and can stimulate a change in the areas of the brain that control nausea and vomiting as well as sleep and mood. Inhalation is the safest method of essential oil use (although those with asthma or severe allergy sensitivities may have issues to consider).

When using on a daily basis, we suggest a very low level of diffusion so that the aroma of the essential oil is faintly noticeable, which in an average-size bedroom would only diffuse a few drops daily. Daily diffusion over many weeks or months may not be in the best interest of most children, as we feel it's important for their immune systems to be challenged so that it learns to fight. Intermittent diffusion is suggested where the diffuser cycles on for a time, such as 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. In our family, we diffuse 5 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Intermittent diffusion is effective and safe for children.

There are times when we want to diffuse to support our immune response or recovery from an illness. Robert Tisserand: “Intermittent diffusion is much more effective, as well as being safer, than continuous diffusion. Intermittent means 30-60 minutes on, then 30-60 minutes off. This is because our body, especially our nervous system, habituates after this length of time. With continuous diffusion, while benefits do not increase, there is evidence that the body becomes stressed in various ways. However, very low levels of diffusion, so the essential oil is barely noticeable, are fine anywhere, for any length of time.” Low level, intermittent diffusion is effective and safe for children.

Unlike candles or aroma lamps, cold-air diffusers disperse oils without heating or burning, which can render the oil therapeutically less beneficial and possibly create toxic compounds. Burned oils may become carcinogenic. Cool, micro-mist (atomization) is considered the best way to provide both aroma and therapeutic and/or value with essential oils. It does not alter the chemical composition of the oils, while it breaks down the molecules and produces a particle size small enough for the lungs and body to absorb rapidly.

Research and/or antidotal testimonies demonstrate that cold air diffusing certain oils may:
• Reduce and eliminate bacteria, fungus, mold
• Relax the mind and body, relieve tension and clear the mind
• Improve concentration, alertness and mental clarity
• Stimulate neurotransmitters
• Stimulate secretion of endorphins
• Stimulate growth hormone production and receptivity
• Improve the secretion of IgA antibodies that fight candida
• Improve digestive function
• Improve hormonal balance
• Relieve headaches
• Dispel odors

Cinnamon bark, Oregano, and the oils found in our Plague Defense blend were all tested by Weber State University and shown to kill 100% of the airborne bacteria present when diffused into the atmosphere.

Diffusing may help eliminate allergy symptoms, and Tisserand writes that "there is no documented evidence of inhaled allergy to any authentic essential oil, the only existing evidence relates to fragrances."

Cleaning Instructions
Hopewell Diffuser atomizers have been carefully engineered for easy cleaning and operating simplicity. We believe that they are perhaps the most "easy to clean" system on the market. We personally try to run Lemon essential oil through the diffuser weekly to keep it clean. Lemon acts like a solvent to remove sticky build up. Another good option is a food-grade, 190-proof alcohol such as Everclear.

Avoid
We avoid diffusing thick essential oils such as Sandalwood, Myrrh, Patchouli and Vetiver, as they are thicker and may clog your atomizer. If you need to diffuse a thicker oil, try diluting it with a thinner oil such as Lemon.
**Do NOT diffuse an oil with a carrier oil in it.**

Very important: Diffuse only quality oils, some fragrance oils have been diluted with a carrier oil. Our diffusers are designed for 100% essential oils. Carrier oils are too thick and may clog the atomizers. Some pure essential oils are thick and resinous by nature, so running a thin oil such as Lemon, or mixing a thinner oil with the thicker oils will help keep the atomizers from getting clogged.

If your diffuser gets clogged or begins to run sluggishly, then a quick clean should fix the problem.

How to clean:
If the unit is not completely clogged, you can add 190-proof alcohol (Everclear) to an empty essential oil bottle and diffuse in an empty room to avoid breathing alcohol. If the unit is too clogged to push the air through, then a deep clean will be required.

1. Remove the atomizer attachment from its base. The oil clogs develop in the attachment piece.
2. Once the attachment has been removed, remove the essential oil bottle, but do not remove the "straw" from the device.
3. Immerse the atomizer attachment in alcohol. A mason jar works great, you can use rubbing alcohol, vodka or Everclear. Let the atomizer attachment remain completely immersed in alcohol for some time depending on the thickness of the oil buildup or resin. Ten minutes may be enough, but overnight may be better. This should clean the oil resin buildup and will not harm the diffuser.
4. Rinse in warm water and let dry.
5. Once dry, reconnect it to the essential oil bottle and diffuse. Be sure it's completely dry. You don't want water in your essential oils. You may want to diffuse some Everclear for a few mintues to be sure it is completely unclogged.

Customer's Testimony about Cleaning her Atomizers
Deb emailed us about the diminished diffusing she was experiencing.
You were right — it was the atomizers. I had cleaned them by following the suggested methods (alcohol then soapy water), but apparently they were still clogged. I thought I would share with you the method that finally did the trick. I heated up some water in a pan on the stove. As it was VERY HOT, I added some dish soap. The parts soaked for about 5 minutes. I then used tongs to remove them. I rinsed and dried them and let them set overnight. Now they work like new. I don’t know if this method is “manufacturer approved” but it worked for me! I happen to prefer the heavier essential oils such as Pine, so they will probably need this maintenance more often.  Again, thanks for your help. - Deb

Testimonies
1. We run our diffuser at night when we are sick, so the Whisper worked best for us. It's quiet and the tubing is helpful to optimally position it to be most effective. - Robin

2. I can not say enough how much I love my Whisper. I love how the bottle of oil being diffused has a stand that's separate from the main diffuser. There's a nice length of tubing between so I can set it on a night stand but have the diffuser motor part further away. I love that feature. Also, I can use different size bottles to diffuse. I was running a 30mL the other night. - Rhoda

3. I have the Heritage Whisper. My downstairs, where I have the diffuser, is 2600 sq ft, and I smell the oils every time I walk through any door from outside. The other day I was sitting on the sofa in the afternoon and looking across the room at my flu stricken husband who was asleep in his chair. The sun was streaming through the blinds, and I actually saw these ribbons swirling and tumbling over each other like gossamer. I was taken aback for a moment until I realized it was the oils floating and permeating the atmosphere of the room. It was an amazing site! I have a water diffuser from an MLM, but it basically mists the oil and water up in one small area and then it falls to the floor. Seems more like a can of air freshener effect to me. - Sally

4. I have both the Hopewell Pro and Whisper diffusers. Both are quiet, efficient and carry the oils over a LARGE area. - Laurie
