Application Suggestions (See Essential Oil Usage for more information and a Dilution Chart.)
*See SAFETY information near the bottom of this page.

Topical: Dilute with a carrier oilunscented lotion or unscented cream and apply on area of concern or as desired. Consider using a roll-on applicator for ease of application of prediluted oil. Maximum topical use is 3%.

Tisserand notes that the maximum dermal use level of Dalmatian Sage (a component of Helichrysum Substitute Blend) is 0.4%, therefore we suggest the maxium dilution of Helichrysum Substitute Blend to be 3%.

Children: Not suitable due to Birch

We've used this blend undiluted on hemorrhaging wounds (as the urgent need didn't permit time to dilute) and there was no irritation at all. People have also reported using it undiluted on cotton balls for hearing issues. It is best to dilute essential oils for daily use to avoid any skin irritation issues now or in the future. Never drop undiluted essential oils into the ear.

Inhalation: Diffuse or use a personal Nasal Inhaler

Internal: Helichrysum Substitute Blend is not suitable for internal use due to Dalmatian Sage (potentially neurotoxic)

1. I took a hard fall on my wrist while visiting some friends. A vein near my palm swelled up and felt pretty painful, but fortunately I didn't fracture any bones. It was several hours before we got back home where I could apply an oil in hopes to reduce the swollen vein. I'd just blended up Helichrysum Blend and had wished for an opportunity to see if it would be as effective as true Helichrysum, so I decided to give it a try first. I dabbed a few drops on the discolored and swollen vein, and within minutes not only did my wrist feel better, but the swelling was almost gone. I re-applied Helichrysum Blend after about 30 minutes, and 30 minutes later, it was hard to tell anything had happened to me. My sore, achy wrist felt almost back to normal as well as a complete reduction in the swelling. The discoloration was gone by morning. I'm pretty impressed! - Linda

2. I'd come to "depend" on Circulation for my blood pressure issues and was a bit cautious to agree to try the Circulation with the Helichrysum Blend instead of true Helichrysum despite the savings in dollars, but I decided to try it. I'm sure glad I did; I cannot notice one bit of difference between the two. Thanks Linda for offering not only great products, but wonderful, caring service. - O. I.

3. I appreciate that you offered sample sizes of both the blend and true Helichrysum so I could give them both a try. I gave them several tests, and must say that your blend is every bit as effective as the true, expensive Helichrysum. Wow! I'm really impressed and thankful beyond words for your efforts to help so many people and for your willingness to educate us along the way. Bless you! - Don

4. I suffered 3 long days from horrible symptoms of vertigo. I couldn't sleep, felt pain, dizziness and so on. My medication just made it worse, so I decided to ask my neighbor about a natural alternative. She consulted your website and then told me to apply Helichrysum Blend oil on a small cotton ball, place it into the ear canal and to sleep with it in my ear. I also applied Frankincense oil around each ear. The next morning I woke up a new person. After three days, I'd finally slept well the whole night. The whole vertigo issue had vanished. I did the treatment one more night just to be sure it was gone for good (not to mention that I love the aroma of Frankincense and the Helichrysum Blend!). It's been over two weeks and not a sign of vertigo as resurfaced.

5. Our son was turning a piece of wood on his lathe and hit a rotten place that "grabbed" the lathe tool and threw his finger into the jagged, turning wood. It tore up the finger, and he came in bleeding profusely. I'd heard that Helichrysum could stop hemorrhaging, but I didn't know if it would sting the wound. I needed to stop the bleeding and get a look at the damage (which I couldn't see because of all the blood pouring out), so I drizzled Helichrysum Blend all over his finger, and thankfully it showed the bone still in place, but amazingly, it also almost totally stopped the bleeding instantly. My son said it didn't sting at all.

6. I had Helichrysum Blend in my birth kit just in case I hemorrhaged during my birth, so when after our baby was delivered the midwife commented that I was bleeding too much, I told her about the Helichrysum Blend. I couldn't remember where to tell her to apply it, so she rubbed in on the bottoms of my feet. The bleeding stopped almost immediately.

7. I had no hearing in my left ear at all. For two months I used Helichrysum Blend in the morning and in the evening. I put the oil on a small cotton ball and put it inside my ear. Sometimes I put Lavender on it as well. I can talk on the phone now and hear like normal.

8. I'm amazed at how the Helichrysum Blend is healing some spots on my arm. I had some assumed pre-cancerous spots frozen/burned off. After they scabbed, I started using diluted Frankincense on them. I didn't notice any significant changes. Yesterday I applied diluted Helichrysum Blend, 2x yesterday and once this morning. The areas are significantly faded, and I kind of have to look to find them. Now that's some healing power in the Helichrysum Blend! I'm kind of anxious for my next boo boo so I can try it again! - Becky H.

9. I had an oversensitive left ear that became more and more bothersome, so nightly I put a drop of Helichrysum Blend on a cotton ball and inserted it into my ear opening. Within weeks, the sensitivity to noise was greatly reduced. I have continued to do this a few nights weekly, and my ears feel about balanced and *normal* for the first time in years. - Linda

10. Hopewell Helichrysum Blend has helped with upper respiratory problems and is restoring my hearing. I had repeated ear infections as a child and I have been applying this blend behind my ears for about two months and can tell a noticeable difference. I also make lots of essential oil products and sometimes get irritated skin. (I know I should wear gloves) However, a few drops of heli with a balm or just coconut oil clears up the irritation within 2-3 days. Thank you Hopewell! - Amy

11. I just had a very painful flare of Dyshidrotic eczema on my hands--the sores can be quite debilitating. Just as it flared, my order of Hopewell's Helichrysum Blend arrived in the mail. A few drops applied several times per day over the past few days has given tremendous relief. - Dell

12. I wanted to let you know the Helichrysum Blend and the Comfrey/Calendula Salve has worked wonders for my scar after hip surgery. I still have a scar, but the top of it is hardly there and the bulk of the scar in the middle is decreasing. So needless to say, I ordered more and I may have to have the other hip done so I will be using this kind of "forever." I use a few drops with the salve and just love it. Thank you for your help. - Caryl

13. I have been greatly helped by using the Helchrysum Blend for my vertigo. I put a drop or two on a small piece of cotton ball and put in my ear opening overnight. This has gotten rid of vertigo that I have with head/sinus congestion. - Heather

14. We rub the Helichrysum Blend behind the ears and down the neck for clogged ears. Works great! - Traci

15. I wanted to give you some feedback that the Helichrysum Blend didn't work as as well as the real-deal Helichrysum single oil for us. It caused mild irritation to the skin when applied and didn't reduce inflammation for us. I think we will stick with the Helichrysum single oil, even though it's kinda pricey. - Karan

16. I read that Helichrysum Blend may help with hearing loss. I have slight hearing loss - nothing major. It is probably just the effects of getting a little older (I will be 49 in two months). I thought I would try the Helichrysum Blend to see if it might help. I first used it with almond oil on my hands to see if it would help with my dry skin. After rubbing it into my hands, I just rubbed it behind my ears. I didn't add any additional oil. Shortly after doing this, my left ear started to feel a little stopped up, and then I had a constant ringing in my ear. Later that evening, I still had ringing and applied just a little more oil behind both ears. At this time, the ringing increased in volume and continued all through the night. By the middle of the next day, the ringing had stopped. Now I am a little nervous to try the Helichrysum blend again. I don't want the ringing to be a permanent condition. Have you ever heard of this happening to anyone else when using the Helichrysum Blend? - Joy
UPDATE: Thank you for your reply and for your prayers! I wanted to give you an update on my ears. I did not apply any more HB since that first day and have not had any more ringing in my ear. Today I cleaned out my left ear (the one that had the ringing) with a Q-tip. It had more wax than I have ever seen in my ear, including a small clump of wax that all came out easily. I then tested my ears by rubbing my thumb and pointer finger together behind each ear. When I did this test before, I could not hear as well out of my left ear as my right ear. After removing the wax, I could hear the same from both ears. WOW! I guess the HB must have brought out the wax that was inside my ear and thus cleared my hearing. I don't know why it caused the ringing in my ear, but, thankfully, it was not permanent and the HB cleared my ear and allowed me to hear better. Success! =) Thank you God!! - Joy

17. In reference to the testimony above (#16), I purchased Helichrysum Blend for my 17-year-old daughter who suffers from conductive hearing loss (the bones of her middle ear have stopped vibrating for no apparent reason). It was a "let's just give this a try" kind of effort. She also noticed that her ears felt stopped up with the application of the blend. She discontinued it when that happened, as she worried she was making the problems worse. I on the other hand, have tried the blend on the vitaflex point on my feet and noticed that it did help with the stopped up feeling I have in my ears from my sinus condition. - Tammy

18. My husband has major knee problems (torn meniscus, arthritis, edema, torn ligaments - all old injuries). Normally he has a Zija drink every morning to keep the inflammation down and Crossfit exercises to strengthen the knee muscles, but a few days ago he overdid it. (LONG winter, first nice day, 15 km bike ride then street hockey with friends.) He came home hobbling in a lot of pain. I applied my home-made arnica salve (arnica tincture, beeswax, rosemary and spruce eo, vit E) and HEO Helichrysum Blend about 4 times during the evening. The next day he was shocked at how well his knee felt. He even did a strenuous Crossfit knee workout today without pain. Kudos to Linda for a great blend. Thank you so much, Linda. - Marilyn

19. I decided to take a chunk out of my thumb today with a very sharp ribbon grater. I am so thankful we had just order a sample of Helichrysum Blend. It was the only thing I had on hand that might stop the bleeding. I diluted it at first with some Jojoba oil with not much luck. I got brave and went for it with 2 drops neat. It took tops 2 minutes for the bleeding slow and completely stop. The application did sting but not as bad as I expected. Considering I have a decent size chunk missing, I am surprised that it is not throbbing. I will defiantly be keeping this one in our first aide/travel kit. - Renee

20. Our two-year-old granddaughter got three little fingers shut in the hinge side of a glass screen door yesterday. We immediately put drops of Helichrysum Blend on them and prayed for her. She was fine within minutes - no bruising whatsoever. We keep this and Lavender in the kitchen, as it seems most the accidents either happen there or arrive there. - Linda

21. I have had "rattling" noises that were helped by Helichrysum Blend. Just a few days ago I had some "fluttering" in my ear. I just dabbed a bit of Helichrysum Blend in front of the ear and around the bottom. The fluttering stopped within minutes and hasn't returned. - Teresa

22. I used Helichrysum Blend for tinnitus! It took a week or two to notice a difference, and it's completely gone after about 5 months. I used a drop of Helichrysum on a cotton ball at night and put it in my ear. About 2-3x a day I apply it around my ear and the back side of my ear (next to my hairline). - Jaton

23. Helichrysum Blend is my friend. I take it with me on vacation because I often get vertigo from snorkeling. I also experience vertigo sometimes with fall allergies. HB has never failed to alleviate my symptoms. - Sally

24. . I have used Helichrysum Blend and Frankincense and also use Peppermint, as it give me a calming feeling! I have vestibular neuritis and BPPV! It does help! I put on the upper part of my forehead, temples, wrists, behind ears and the base of my neck! - Debra

25. I've had Nummular Eczema on my leg for several years now and have tried a LOT of things to clear it up. Nothing really worked. During the winter months it flares up terribly, and his year it was particularly bad. It always resurfaces in the same spot, so not only was it active, but I also have scar tissue too. As a last resort I bought Hopewell's Helichrysum Substitute Blend and was shocked at how fast my eczema has cleared up after using it only 4 days! It's no longer itching/weeping/inflamed and has almost completely healed! I mixed 8 drops of the Helichrysum Substitute EO with a blend of Grapeseed, Hemp and Castor oil in the 10 ml roll-on applicator. Thank you Hopewell! - Audrey

26. One of my lambs got a caught in the fence somewhere and ripped a chunk out of his shoulder. The wound was the size of a half dollar. It was bleeding profusely (near an artery) and blood was pooling underneath the skin as well. I ran in the house and snatched the Hopewell bottle of Helichrysum Blend from the medicine cabinet. I poured it (neat) directly in to the wound. The external bleeding stopped immediately. Within ten minutes all the blood underneath had reabsorbed!!! The wound healed quickly without any infection. I was amazed!!! - E.N.

27. I bought Helichrysum Blend for my husband’s hearing loss. His hearing test showed he was only picking up on one of many tones. We put one drop on a cotton ball and plugged his ear for a few hours in the evening every night for 1 week. This week he can hear the crickets again! He has started to regain the hearing in the left ear! We are so excited to see the level of improvement when he goes to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist this week. I just had to let you know this is working! We are going to start plugging the ear all night now as he is not getting dizzy from it at all. Thank you Hopewell for your great oils! - Erin

28. Helichrysum Blend diluted in roll-on helps my hearing tremendously! I use it almost nightly, and if I go a few weeks without using it, my friends ask if I've forgotten to use it. They can tell a difference, too! - Carol

29. My mom has had tremendous results using your oils for her crushed ankle. I mixed Regeneration, Arctic Ice and Helicrysium Substitute Blend together in coconut oil. Before using this blend, she was very limited on standing and then walking the next day due to pain. She has been using the blend for 2 years or more and her pain has been greatly reduced! She is able to go about her normal life now without limping! She will not do anything before applying these every morning. It has been such a blessing for her! I tell so many, and so does she. God has given us so many things on this earth for healing, we have just lost so much through trusting modern medicine and not listening to those who have gone before us. - Maria

30. I used Helichrysum Substitute Blend to aid in the reduction of a superficial blood clot in my leg after the birth of my baby. I cannot tell you how grateful I was for this blend, as I was not able to afford true helychrysum essential oil. It was very effective. - Lisa

31. I used Helichrysum Substitute Blend under my ear for a few days to help with a tumor in my ear. After a few days I started to experience uncomfortable pressure, so I stopped using the Helichrysum and switched back to using the Assist blend. I didn’t experience the uncomfortable pressure anymore. - Mary

32. I use Helichrysm Substitute Blend often for hearing loss, and doing so restored 10 decibels on my hearing (audiogram confirmed). It is phenomenal when diluted - sometimes with EOs, less is way more! I used Helichrysum diluted with emu oil and applied it to my big and two small toes, along sinus area beneath toes, behind ears and base of neck. I had 3 people tell me it worked for them too, and a young man with Meniere's onset with almost total hearing loss in one year regained hearing in three days. He also used Ginger on his stomach for dizziness. I think maybe some hearing loss is heavy metal related (and I suspected it had caused his Meniere's after the fact), and Helichrysum works then for that and the nerves. I know you encounter lots of people, so had to share that one because Meniere's has a tiny support community and yet it is highly disruptive to their lives. - Jean

33. I’ve had Meniere’s for almost 5 years. I experience ringing and a static echo-like sound in my left year. I recently purchased Geranium because I wanted to use it as perfume. I applied it behind my ear lobes and on the bone behind my ears. I left with my husband to go out to eat, and at the restaurant I noticed that the echo was gone. I felt sure it was the essential oil! The next day, the echo returned, so I applied the Geranium again just like I had the night before and looked Meniere’s up on your website. No one mentioned using Geranium, but I knew it worked for me. I ordered your Helichrysum Substitute Blend to try in addition to Geranium. When it arrived, I applied the Geranium around my ear as I had been and put the Helichrysum Blend on a cotton ball in my ear. Now the echo issue had not been a problem when I used the Geranium twice a day, but I still had the ringing. The ringing was gone about ½ hour after putting the Helichrysum Blend cotton ball in my ear. Seriously - gone! I’ve adjusted my routine a little here and there, but basically, I use the Geranium and Helichrysum Blend around my ear and the Helichrysum Blend on a cotton ball in my ear nightly, and I am basically hearing as normal now.

Safety
Birch: Dermal, Inhalation and Internal Contraindications: Anticoagulant medication, major surgery, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, pregnancy, nursing, children and people with salicylate sensitivity, which may apply to people with ADD/ADHD (Tisserand/Young page 215).

Birch Internal Caution: Large doses of Birch can be toxic. 5mls of Birch is equal to approximately 21 aspirin (300 mg tablets). Large amounts taken orally can cause ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, headache, stomach pain and confusion. Tisserand notes that the maximum adult daily oral dose is 182mg, which would be less than .2mL. Oral Caution: GERD disease.

Tisserand writes about Wintergreen, which has the same properties as Birch:
"Wintergreen oil has some wonderful properties, but I would not like to see it used at more than 5%. No one has died from dermal [topical] application, but there have been at least three reported cases of people taking blood-thinning medication who broke out in internal bruising when they applied methyl salicylate-containing products to their skin. It enhances the blood thinning action of the drug, and blood leaks out of the blood vessels."

Neurotoxic Risk of Dalmatian Sage: A 44-year-old woman who weighed 133 lb died hours after ingesting two teaspoons of sage oil for treatment of asthma (a friend had suggested she take 1-5 drops in two teaspoons of brandy). Before dying she suffered epileptiform convulsions. Doctors reported cardiac failure and dyspnea and setimated that she had drunk 7mL. Post-mortem examination showed only slight damage to the stomach and small intestine. The lungs smelled stongly of sage and were 'emphysematous.' No other organ showed any sign of damage (Whitling 1908).
[from Essential oil Safety by Tisserand/Young, page 414.]

Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas. Essential oils are both lipophilic and hydrophobic. Lipophilic means they are attracted to fat— like the membranes of your eyes and skin. They are also hydrophobic, meaning they do not like water. Applying a carrier oil will create another fat for the essential oil to be attracted to other than the membranes of the eyes or skin. Tisserand suggests: "With essential oils, fatty oil has been suggested as an appropriate first aid treatment, though the advantage of saline [eyewash] is that the eyes can be continually flushed, and this is less easy with fatty oil.” We are not aware of a case where essential oil in the eyes caused permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your health care provider.

May the Lord guide you continually, preserving your health and watering your life when you are dry. May you be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring full of hope for your future in His care.
