(Cupressus sempervirens) Traditionally used to support healthy lung and circulatory function, veins, blood capillaries and menstrual cycle.
Battaglia writes: Cypress is renowned as an excellent venous decongestant and is used for the treatment of varicose veins, oedema and haemorrhoids. Holmes describes the therapeutic properties of cypress: "Cypress is the only essential oil which is a true venous blood decongestant as well as an astringent . . . it gives a lift to the side of the circulation liable to congestive stasis, relieving resultant menstrual imbalances with heavy periods and intermenstrual bleeding. Part of cypress' blood activating action is a restorative effect on the veins themselves, useful with ailments ranging from heamorrhoids to phlebitis."
Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D wrote in The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils (p. 133) that 1 drop in water may calm a nervous cough. Kurt Schnaubelt wrote in Medical Aromatherapy: “Essential oil of cypress derives its multiple uses from the action of complex sesqui and diterpene components. It is useful for all bronchial complaints and it is a choice spasmolytic for whooping cough. Aromamedicine recommends cypress for lung diseases like tuberculosis and pleurisy (in conjunction with Myrtus communis). It is a decongestant for prostate, veins, and the lymphatic system. Its bitter principles strengthen a weak pancreas. It is an intestinal and neurotonic. It helps to prevent the spread of varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and edema, especially of the lower limbs."
Topical: Dilute with a carrier oil, unscented lotion or unscented cream and apply on area of concern or as desired. Consider using a roll-on applicator for ease of application of prediluted oil. Tested at 5% dilution on 25 volunteers, Cypress was neither irritating or sensitizing (Tisserand). Since Cypress does not have a limiting dilution parameter, we suggest that adults follow the General Guidelines found on the Dilution Chart, which is: 2-3% for daily application Up to 25% for short-term use
Inhalation: Diffuse or use a personal inhaler
Internal: Cypress is suitable for internal use within safe parameters if such use is deemed appropriate. We feel that internal use is rarely *needed* and should only be used with respect for how concentrated the oils are. HEO does not advocate internal use of essential oils without appropriate knowledge and understanding of how to administer, for what purpose, how much, which essential oils, safety concerns and so on. In our experience, essential oils are generally more effective used topically with proper dilution or inhaled. Kurt Schnaubelt Ph.D. notes that "French aromatherapy literature contains many references to using oils orally." He goes on to note that "generally 1 drop is always enough when ingesting essential oils." A potential toxicity hazard could occur when untrained people use essential oils orally and ingest too much. Keep in mind that while medical doctors or health care practitioners may prescribe essential oils for internal use, they are trained and experienced in the safe application of essential oils. It is not a matter of using "French aromatherapy" or "British" methods, it's a matter of experience and appropriate application. Click here for more information about internal usage.

13. Having read the testimonies concerning Cypress and bed wetting, I wondered if Cypress would help me with sudden bladder urges. I am pleased to say that it has been of great benefit!. I diluted Cypress in a roll-on, and I applied it upon getting up and going to bed. It has almost completely taken care of those sudden urges. I now apply it less frequently, and it is still helping. - Iris
14. I gave some Cypress to a friend whose 10-year-old daughter was still wetting the bed. She rubbed it on her abdomen and she never wet the bed again. - Barbara
15. I have a very small bladder and frequent bathroom stops have been part of my life since childhood. I am using Cypress oil over my bladder and can sleep all night. This is nothing short of a miracle! - Merri
16. Cypress oil cured my daughter with bed wetting and it also helps me tremendously with cramps from my endometriosis! Love it! - Jessica R. 17. I do not know exactly what my knee issue is, but it has been going on for over a year. Had chiropractic care and an orthopedic doctor shot it with cortisone. Not much help from either. But I have found the biggest relief with Cypress. I went on a 64 mile hike with a Hopewell oil user. I brought Peppermint for myself, she brought Cypress. The first day my knee was already so bad I thought I was never going to finish the week. But she gave me Cypress and I felt IMMEDIATE relief! It got better and better through the week, and since being home it is even better! Cypress now is my most favorite thing ever! - Krysten 18. An equal combination of Cypress (for circulaiton) and Copaiba (for discomfort) diluted with fractionated Coconut oil works everytime for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), not only for me, but for anyone I make this up for. I usually make this up in a spray bottle diulted at 10-25% for short-term ease of use. - Carrie
19. One of my children had bedwetting issues and the only thing that finally resolved it, after trying the neurodevelopmenal suggestions, was Cypress essential oil from Hopewell Essential Oils. The child rubbed it just below navel everynight, and in about 2 weeks it resolved. - Caroline 20. Yesterday I had a sudden, horrible nosebleed. I put a drop of Cypress on a tissue and put it into my nostril. It instantly stopped. Of course, I wondered if this was coincidental, but today I had another nosebleed, so I did the same thing. Again, the bleeding instantly stopped. - Brandee 21. I have COPD and my biggest challenge is infections. I have pleurisy, pneumonia regularly, but not constantly. It also comes on suddenly and leaves me with pain to deal with until I can get to a doctor. The last time I started hurting at 3pm. By 5pm it was quite worse. At 6pm I made a blend of Warrior, Thyme vulgaris ct linalool and Cypress diluted to 25% and started applying every hour where my lung was hurting. By 10pm, it was the first time I could tell it was any better and I could turn over some in the recliner. After the 12 midnight application, I slept until 3am, and then I woke up hurting, so I reapplied and slept until 6am. When I awoke at 6am, I was still hurting quite a bit, so I reapplied my blend at 6 and again at 7am. AFTER THAT, I went several hours feeling much better and applied a scheduled dose at noon, not based on pain. I ran errands, delivered a meal and met friends for dinner and was still not hurting. It was 8-9pm before I got back home and applied another scheduled dose (again, not based on pain). I think I could have completely healed by just applying the oils. (I saw my MD the next day just for convenience and my lack of knowledge on length of treatment.) It was the first time I had this good of results from using oils. I included extra details just to show how long it took to get results in case anyone wants to try. To say I was delighted is an understatement, since so many times it starts without warning!! - Rhonda 22. I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis by my dermatologist and instructed to use a topical steroid cream or shampoo as needed. She told me I'd have this condition forever and offered no hope for a cure. I decided to take a natural approach. I purchased Hopewell's Shampoo Bar soap and put about 4 drops of Cypress essential oil into my soapy palm to wash my hair, which is about 3x weekly. My scalp and hair feels soooooo good now and my hair looks better than ever. Every now and then my symptoms come back, but they disappear when I re-wash my hair. - Brenda 23. I’m a 65-year-old retired female. About 2 years ago I developed an awful issue with bedwetting during the night. Nothing had physically changed to cause this issue as far as diet or anything else - it just came out of nowhere. I had remembered my mom having her bladder “tacked” when she was younger so I checked with my OB-GYN about that to see if I needed that, and she found everything to be in order with no issues to correct. So, my primary doctor and I began the process of trying various medications to take care of this incontinence issue. I had no issues during the day, only at night as I slept. Nothing ever woke me up as to the need for a bathroom break, so I’d sleep through the whole thing. When the meds didn’t work, the doctor sent me for some therapy for several weekly visits, which seemed to help some, but never completely. Once I had to stop the treatments (cost and insurance wouldn’t cover), the problem continued to get worse. This is graphic, but I found myself having to wear the adult Depends nightly and I would still wake up in the morning to a flooded bed. Sometimes I’d wake up during the middle of the night also to a flooded bed, have to strip it down and end up using 2 Depends before getting through just one night. It wasn’t that extreme every single night but at least 1-2 nights a week and I’d never know which nights would be the worst. Nothing I was doing or not doing was triggering this, as I tracked what I was and was not doing before bed and up to 4 hours before bed to be sure I wasn’t causing this. I ended up having to not only wear the adult Depends, but also sleeping on a bed pad each night and then eventually even having to put a plastic fitted sheet under my cotton fitted sheet and then a bed pad on top of my regular sheet as I didn’t want to ruin my mattress. It literally got so bad that I wouldn’t go off to stay somewhere else (like a hotel or someone else’s home) because I truly did not know what to expect or when to expect it to happen, and what damage and embarrassment it would cause. I begin to read on your website the testimonials of others with incontinence problems, fully convinced no one was having it to the degree that I was. But, not having anything to lose, I chose to try some Cypress essential oil to see if it would help, at least some! I began to apply Cypress with a carrier oil on my lower abdomen every night before bed and every morning when I got up. Much to my delight, I have not flooded the bed since using this. I have left my bed set up the same way (bed pads, etc) and I continue to wear the adult Depends just in case, and there are some nights that I do have some leakage, but I have yet to even get the top bed pad wet. There have been nights now that nothing happens during the night, some nights when I actually awaken now with the need to go to the bathroom, but some nights when I do still have to change a Depend. To say this is like night and day, is an understatement. I tried to drop the morning application of Cypress but, for some reason, it affected what happened at night, so I have since continued to daily apply this in the morning and in the evening. It is under control enough that I believe I would be able to go off now and spend the night elsewhere without too much concern. I’m just hoping that I will eventually be able to do away with the adult Depends altogether. We shall see. This is more than I would normally share, and it can be quite embarrassing, but it helps me so much when I read other’s testimonials when trying to decide what might help me with issues I am having, so I wanted to share my own journey, which I pray will continue to improve over time with the help of these oils. God bless you, Linda, for the time you put into this ministry and this business so we can find healthy solutions to the various issues we may have. - Anonymous
