Persistent, chronic inflammation is most likely at the root of most chronic health issues, which includes rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. It is our body's response to stress, which may be from a poor diet, environmental or emotional issues. Temporary inflammation happens when you succumb to a cold, and your body responds by heating up to kill the invading virus. This is normal and welcome, but chronic inflammation upsets the balance we strive for to be healthy.

Recipe for Chronic Inflammation
- poor diet
- lack of adequate sunshine
- lack of adequate exercise
- lack of quality sleep
- environmental toxins
- insufficient pure water - we suggest at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of pure (chlorine and fluoride-free water) daily

Recipe for Preventing Disease and Chronic Inflammation
- diet with real, organically grown foods, plenty of color in vegetables and fruits
- plenty of pure water is very important - we suggest at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of pure (chlorine-free and fluoride-free) water daily
- fermented foods such as apple cider vinegar, veggies, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, yogurt from unpasteurized milk - build immunity and control infections
- saturated fats such as virgin coconut oil, organic butter from grass-fed, unpasturized milk
- adequate sunlight daily - don't underestimate the value of Vitamin D in regulating immune function
- tart cherries are reported to reduce inflammation 10x that of aspirin
- slightly steamed broccoli is loaded with natural vitamin C and calcium and fights inflammation, especially of the eyes
- soaked walnuts (soak to eliminate the enzyme inhibitor so they are easier to digest and more useful to your body)
- fresh onions and garlic
- ginger and turmeric, both spices and essential oils
- Turmeric Curcumin supplement

Application Suggestions (See Essential Oil Usage for more information and a Dilution Chart.)
Topical: Dilute with a carrier oilunscented lotion or unscented cream and apply on area of concern or as desired. Consider using a roll-on applicator for ease of application of prediluted oil.

Since Flame Out does not have a limiting dilution parameter, we suggest that adults follow the General Guidelines found on the Dilution Chart, which is:
2-3% for daily application
Up to 25% for short-term use

Children: For infants and children, please follow the Dilution Chart on the Babies and Children page.

Inhalation: Diffuse or use a personal Nasal Inhaler

Internal: Flame Out is suitable for internal use within safe parameters if such use is deemed appropriate. We feel that internal use is rarely *needed* and should only be used with respect for how concentrated the oils are. HEO does not advocate internal use of essential oils without appropriate knowledge and understanding of how to administer, for what purpose, how much, which essential oils, safety concerns and so on. In our experience, essential oils are generally more effective used topically with proper dilution or inhaled. Kurt Schnaubelt Ph.D. notes that "French aromatherapy literature contains many references to using oils orally." He goes on to note that "generally 1 drop is always enough when ingesting essential oils." A potential toxicity hazard could occur when untrained people use essential oils orally and ingest too much. Keep in mind that while medical doctors or health care practitioners may prescribe essential oils for internal use, they are trained and experienced in the safe application of essential oils. It is not a matter of using "French aromatherapy" or "British" methods, it's a matter of experience and appropriate application.

(Genesis 1:29-30, Ezekiel 47:12)
1. I applied Flame Out topically for a sore shoulder, and it really helped release the soreness. - Sherri

2. I had a terribly painful neck, and decided to try applying Flame Out to it. It eased the pain very well. - Nina

3. Our 17-year-old daughter has diverticular symptoms. She has William's Syndrome, so digestive issues are a big part of her and our lives. We watch what she eats very carefully, but sometimes mistakes happen, or foods don't pass through as they should, so she ends up with extreme pain on her left side. In an attempt to help clear her gut, as soon as a flare rears its ugly head, we give her a couple of activated charcoal capsules as well as some Digestion Support and Tummy Soothe because nausea usually goes along with a flare. However, the inflammation caused by the diverticulitis seems to respond best to applications of Flame Out. We apply a couple of drops, along with some carrier, to her side and belly. The pain usually eases within half an hour, but we continue with a couple more applications every half hour, just to make sure. If she still complains about discomfort in the area, we apply Flame Out every hour until it eases. - Faith
Safety
Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas. Essential oils are both lipophilic and hydrophobic. Lipophilic means they are attracted to fat— like the membranes of your eyes and skin. They are also hydrophobic, meaning they do not like water. Applying a carrier oil will create another fat for the essential oil to be attracted to other than the membranes of the eyes or skin. Tisserand suggests: "With essential oils, fatty oil has been suggested as an appropriate first aid treatment, though the advantage of saline [eyewash] is that the eyes can be continually flushed, and this is less easy with fatty oil.” We are not aware of a case where essential oil in the eyes caused permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your health care provider.
