Free-N-Clear
Black Cumin (Nigella sativa) Seed Oil (40%), Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), Eucalyptus globulus, Geranium (Pelargonium x asperum), Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) and Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Safety Information
Children:
Lemongrass is not suitable for children under 2 due to possible skin irritation issues. Don't apply on or near the face of an infant or children under 10. For children under 3, Tisserand wrote on his Facebook page that Eucalyptus globulus can be diffused (1-2 drops) and applied topically at a concentration of 0.5% (5 drops in 1oz carrier oil.)

Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Tisserand suggests the use of Lemongrass to be restricted to 0.7% maximum topically during pregnancy due to citral which could affect fetal development in high topical doses. To achieve this dilution, you'll use 1 drop of Free-N-Clear to 9 drops of additional carrier.

Medication Incompatibility:
Caution All Routes: Diabetes medication and drugs metabolized by CYP2B6 (if unsure, ask your MD or pharmacist)
Therapeutic Uses
Free-N-Clear essential oil blend may support, aid, ease, soothe, reduce, calm, relax, promote and/or maintain healthy function of the following:
Acne, overactive sebaceous glands
Bacteria
Fungus
Immune system
Inflammation
Insect bites
Lymph system
Skin, acne, blemishes, insect bites, overactive sebaceous glands

Formulated to calm overactive sebaceous glands, soothe acne irritations and facilitate cell rejuvenation. Essential oils are an unfriendly environment for misbehaving bacteria, and, as an antioxidant, black cumin seed oil promotes healthy skin.

Many are pleased with the results of using Free-N-Clear after washing the face with Dairy Meadow's Honey Oatmeal Soap.

Application Suggestions (See Essential Oil Usage for more information and a Dilution Chart.)
Topical: The current dilution is 60% essential oils, 40% Black Cumin Seed oil. Dilute with additional carrier oil, aloe veraunscented lotion or unscented cream and apply on area of concern or as desired. Consider using a roll-on applicator for ease of application of prediluted oil. If you use topically as desired as spot treatment on troublesome acne, avoid the eyes.

Dilution Tip: Due to Lemongrass in the blend, we don't suggest that you use this blend at over 6% essential oils. Since the blend already has 40% Black Cumin oil as a carrier, the following will help you determine how to dilute it further:
6% essential oils:  For every drop/part of Free-N-Clear, add 9 drops/parts carrier. For a 10mL roll-on applicator add 30 drops Free-N-Clear and fill to the shoulder with carrier oil. (This will be 10% of the current blend that includes 40% Black Cumin Seed oil, so with this dilution, the essential oil component of the blend will be limited to 6%.)

1. I'm 55 and got a 10mL for my teenagers, but I had a pimple pop up on my face just like when I was a teenager. So I had a chance to try it. I applied it frequently over the next few hours until I went to bed. By that time (just hours later), it had come to a head and had drained by morning. I applied Free-N-Clear again a couple of times so the spot would heal quickly, and it did. I'm impressed with it. - Linda

2. I just wanted to say I'm so thankful to HEOs! I'm 26 years old, and I've had acne since I was 12. I've tried everything under the sun, and nothing has worked. I started washing my face with Dairy Meadow’s Oatmeal Goat Milk soap and using Free-N-Clear twice a day. Less than two weeks later my face is drastically better! Nothing has ever worked like this. Thank you so much!!!!! - Hayley

3. I struggle with hair follicles on my chin that stay inflamed and zit-like and often become almost like sores that unfortunately bleed and ooze regularly if the hairs grow outward. Sometimes they don't; they just curl under the skin. I can eventually tweeze them and the sore will heal for a time, but since the hairs keeping growing back, there is never full or lasting relief. I rarely, if ever, have break outs of actual pimples anywhere on my face now, but that area always looks rough, and I am constantly aware of trying to keep it clean due to the regularly open nature of the wounds and not wanting to aid or increase the irritation, infection and scarring. On top of that, it just looks yucky and doesn't really matter much how otherwise healthier I am and am feeling. This has been a long saga now, and I really do think it's fixable. I decided to try Free-N-Clear, but unfortunately the oil burned my face. Badly ☹ I didn’t realize that’s what was happening at first since my face was unusually aggravated around the follicles anyway (silly hormones), but I had wondered once before if I was allergic/sensitive to Tea Tree oil, because it made my face blotchy when I bought a tea tree wash one time, and now I know that I very much am. I will not complain about this, as I know there is always a risk with any oil, but after two days of use, my chin area especially is raw and weeping and is deep red with scaly scabs are trying to form. I just wanted to let you know that in case it's worth ever mentioning to anyone else. I will just use the Dairy Meadow Oatmeal Soap for the time being and am putting aloe vera (straight from the leaf) on my face for now to keep it calm. - Sarah

4. I have been using the recommended combination of the Honey Oatmeal soap and Free-N-Clear roll-on to help diminish current acne brought on by pregnancy hormones. This combination is working better than anything I have ever tried before. Thank you so much! I have already shared the secret with other women I know who struggle with the dreaded "teenage face" during pregnancy! - Candice

5. I have had hormonal acne for 10 years. The Free N Clear is clearing my face up! I have been using using it about a week so far. - Leslie

6. I bought Free-N-Clear for a child, but they set it aside until out of desperation they tried it. The shoulder acne is gone plus scars healing! -Julie

7. Free-N-Clear and Complexion worked wonders for my daughter's acne issues! - Stacey

8. Just wanted to share the results I'm seeing from using the 'Free-N-Clear' blend. I'm in my late 20's, and I've dealt with acne since my early teens. In the last few years it's been mostly a few small breakouts or even just one or two blemishes at at time, but they tend to stick around for a while and have been impossible for me to get rid of. I've been applying Free-N-Clear on problem areas every morning and evening. Within three applications, most of the blemishes were better or gone. After a week now, my face is the clearest it's been in a long time! I'm so excited to be seeing such great results from so many of the Hopewell blends! Can't wait to get even more. - Melanie
Safety
Lemongrass Cautions
Antibiotics:
Contraindicated by all routes in significant amounts. Dr. Valnet writes that oils high in aldehydes, such as Lemongrass, can "inactivate antibiotics and so limit their use in ointment form." Tisserand/Young do not mention this caution in the 2014 edition of his Essential Oil Safety book.

Pregnancy: Tisserand suggests the use of Lemongrass to be restricted to 0.5% maximum topically during pregnancy due to citral which could affect fetal development in high topical doses. "Citral impairs reproductive performance in female rats by reducing the number of ovarian follicles (Toaff et al 1979). The effect, however, was seen only after a series of six monthly ip injections at a dose of 300 mg/kg. This is equivalent to injecting ~ 25mL of lemongrass oil into a woman's abdomen. Based on other research, we have restricted citral exposure in pregnancy" (Tisserand/Young, page 149).

Antidepressants: There are some that feel that oils high in citral should be avoided with antidepressants (specifically Bupropion) that inhibits CYP2B6 enzyme. Tisserand states that this risk is considered "theroretical" based on the research.
Diabetes Medication: Use with caution orally.

Skin Irritation: Tisserand recommends a dermal maximum of 4 drops per ounce (0.7%), although he noted that 25 volunteers were tested at 4% (24 drops per ounce) and it was neither irritating nor sensitizing. We suggest you dilute and test on a small area first to determine skin sensitivity before applying to a larger area. If skin irritation results, apply a carrier oil to dilute the effect.

Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas. Essential oils are both lipophilic and hydrophobic. Lipophilic means they are attracted to fat— like the membranes of your eyes and skin. They are also hydrophobic, meaning they do not like water. Applying a carrier oil will create another fat for the essential oil to be attracted to other than the membranes of the eyes or skin. Tisserand suggests: "With essential oils, fatty oil has been suggested as an appropriate first aid treatment, though the advantage of saline [eyewash] is that the eyes can be continually flushed, and this is less easy with fatty oil.” We are not aware of a case where essential oil in the eyes caused permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your health care provider.
