Much More Than a Pleasant Scent: A Review on Essential Oils Supporting the Immune System by Molecules
"After the exposure of 12 healthy male subjects to vaporized hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) stem EO for three consecutive nights in an urban hotel room, NK activity, the percentages of NK cells, and perforin, granulysin, and granzyme A/B-expressing cells were found to be significantly increased in peripheral blood, while the percentage of T cells significantly decreased in a work by Li et al."

Essential oils from other Chamaecyparis species have been reported to have insecticidal and antimicrobial activities. Essential oil from Chamaecypris formosensis also has growth inhibitory activity against phytopathogenic fungi.

This study suggests that C. formosensis may have potential for use as a natural resource for human health care.

After inhaling Chamecyparis formosensis essential oil, participant's systolic blood pressure and heart rate (HR) were decreased, and diastolic blood pressure increased. In addition, sympathetic nervous activity (SNS) was significantly decreased, and parasympathetic activity (PSNS) was significantly increased. [The essential oil] stimulated a pleasant mood status. Our results strongly suggest that the essential oil could be suitable agents for the development of regulators of sympathetic nervous system dysfunctions.

1. I made a very restful blend using Orange, Lavender, Frankincense and Cedarwood with a touch of Hinoki. The Hinoki makes this blend exceptional for calming anxiousness and nervous tension. - Candice
Safety
Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas. Essential oils are both lipophilic and hydrophobic. Lipophilic means they are attracted to fat—like the membranes of your eyes and skin. They are also hydrophobic, meaning they do not like water. Flushing with water will only send the essential oil back to the eye's membranes. Applying a carrier oil will create another fat for the essential oil to be attracted to other than the membranes of the eyes or skin. We’ve not known this to cause permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your health care provider.
