Nutritional Remedy for Heavy Periods by The Healthy Home Economist
"According to a case study written about in the book Eat Fat, Lose Fat, 2 tablespoons of high-vitamin cod liver oil per day supplying about 60,000 IU of Vitamin A for 3 days in a row eliminated this debilitating problem for one woman who had been suffering from what she called a “never-ending period” for 4 years. A daily maintenance dose of high vitamin unheated cod liver oil (1 tsp per day) after that was sufficient to keep the problem of heavy periods from returning. My family takes Dropi Cod Liver oil with natural Vitamin A (not synthetic)."

The Relationship between Vitamin D Status and the Menstrual Cycle in Young Women: A Preliminary Study - National Library of Medicine, 2018
Overall, this study can be considered preliminary in nature. The study demonstrates a relationship between menstrual disorders and low levels of vitamin D, which may be related to AMH, insulin, and androgen or which could perhaps involve a yet-to-be-identified pathway. Further investigation of potential mechanisms is needed. Supplementation is recommended in women with low levels of vitamin D in order to compensate for this deficiency and to assess its effect in regulating menstrual disorders.

What role do vitamin D supplements play in treating dysmenorrhea? - MedCentral

Menstrual cramping may be eased by consistently using Woman Ease (daily and/or during the cycle). The best results are likely achieved by daily use. Also, consider using Colocynthis homeopathic remedy (see testimony #13 below).

(Genesis 1:29-30, Ezekiel 47:12)
1. This blend has eliminated my monthly cramping and I am telling all my friends about it! - D.S.

2. I am 30 years old and have awful PMS and menstrual cycles. Every month, I dread that week! Well, for two weeks, I have used Woman Ease, and I just started my menstrual cycle without pain, cramps or irritability. What an improvement! I am thrilled to use it more this coming month, and I'm not dreading next month! - K.M.
[Linda's comment: A 2012 study showed that a single mega dose of vitamin D eased menstrual pain for up to two months. Lasco A, Catalano A, Benvenga S. Improvement of primary dysmenorrhea caused by a single oral dose of vitamin D. Arch Intern Med. 2012 Feb 27;172(4):366-367.]

3. Anise seed tea helps with cramping. Steep a teaspoon of anise seeds in boiling water for about 3 minutes, then drain and drink with or without sugar. It works like a charm. - Mary

4. Red Raspberry tea has really helped our family. - RaShell

5.  Consider a zinc deficiency. A neurodevelopmentalist I work with suggests Optizinc, and if you are deficient, taking 25-50 mg/day for a while to get the levels up. There is not enough in most multi-vitamins.

6. I use Woman Ease (directly on crampy areas), and I have immediate relief. - Barb

7. I first became acquainted with Hopewell Essential Oils at a friend’s home in Idaho. While we were visiting, our daughter was incapacitated with severe menstrual cramps. My friend gave me HEO's Woman Ease, which she used especially for menstrual issues. Within an hour, my daughter's cramping had stopped, and she was able to function again! Praise the Lord! - Elanee

8. My 17-year-old daughter uses Woman Ease and likes it for cramps. - Tammy

9. I got Woman Ease the other day, just in time for 'girl time.' I applied it to my crampy areas and lower back. My pain was gone within an hour. I re-applied after my shower and had no pain for the rest of the day. I am 36, and it works for me. I'm looking forward to trying the Master Blend next. - Erin

10. I ordered Woman Ease even though I'm past that age range, but I decided to try it because of the way my cycles are. I was amazed. I usually have terrible cramps and have to take Advil or Tylenol, etc., for a few days during the first few days of my cycle. I applied it twice as soon as it came, once in the afternoon and again at night. I applied it just as it said on the bottle: stomach, back, and both sides of my ankles. I did not dilute with a carrier oil. Although I still had VERY mild cramps, they were SO mild I didn't even need to take anything. The next day, I again applied it in the morning and afternoon. For the FIRST time in my life, I did not need to take anything using this blend! It is absolutely amazing!! - Mrs. T.

11. A few weeks back, my friend emailed you about her Woman Ease and how she and her two daughters didn't like the smell (though they LOVE all your other oils!). She thought maybe something was wrong with their bottle. Well, I wanted to update you. I purchased a sample bottle so I could compare hers to mine. She felt something must be wrong with hers since it smelled so bad to them. Well, lo and behold, when mine came in, I really liked it. I had them smell mine to see if it smelled like theirs, and it did (so there was nothing wrong with it). Then I explained how sometimes you have to get used to an oil's smell, use it and be helped by it, and the smell can begin to grow on you. As I explained how I actually really liked the smell, and we were all putting it on our wrists and smelling, one daughter, right then and there, began to change her mind about it, and my friend, too, said maybe it wasn't so bad. Given some time and experience with the blend, I'm sure they will be won over. :) Just wanted to let you know. Your oils continue to bless us. I thank God! - Brenda

12. I ordered some Woman Ease for my sister, who has always had miserable, though pretty regular, periods. Since using it faithfully for a year or more, she has greatly reduced the severity of the symptoms. All in all, I have been very pleased with using essential oils for hormonal balance. I have been known to say that your blends have helped my hormones more than anything else, but in truth, switching to an organic diet rich in good fats has probably been as helpful. In such complicated situations, it can be difficult to tell what exactly has specifically made the difference. - Savannah

13. Woman Ease is amazing for my 16-year-old daughter. She's been using it for the last two years, and it almost instantly takes away her horrible cramps. It also lifts her mood. We just shared it with a 24-year-old who was having horrible cramps, and she's now an oil believer! - Sunny

14. Woman Ease didn't work for my daughter's painful periods. Colocynthis homeopathic remedy did. We started with 30c, and now she uses 1M. - Stacy
Safety
Fennel Drug Interaction: Reproductive hormone modulation may inhibit blood clotting (Tisserand).

Fennel: Avoid by all routes (topical, inhalation, oral): Pregnancy, breastfeeding, endometriosis, estrogen-dependent cancers, children under five years of age (per The Expanded Commission E Monographs. Tisserand notes that no explanation is given.) Specifically regarding (E)-anethole, Tisserand writes: "We consider that there is sufficient evidence of an estrogenic action for ( E )-anethole, and that administration of essential oils containing a high proportion of it should be avoided by any route in pregnancy, breastfeeding, endometriosis and estrogen-dependent cancers."

Tisserand also noted: "Fennel is contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing because it is estrogenic (due to about 75% trans-anethole content). This probably explains why it can boost milk supply, but the concern is that it might upset the delicate balance of hormones in an infant. This is only a theoretic risk, but it's one that is perhaps worth heeding."

Estragole: Tisserand writes: "Estragole is a rodent carcinogen when oral exposure is sufficiently high."

The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy by Salavatore Battaglia on the safety of Fennel: "I have a suspicion that some aromatherapists may be concerned about the fenchone content, which is a ketone. As we know, some ketones are reputed to be neurotoxic. There is no pharmacological evidence to suggest that fenchone or transanethole are neurotoxic in the doses used in aromatherapy." Battaglia references other noted authors: Blumenthal, Lawless, Tisserand.

Clinical Aromatherapy by Jane Buckle: "Some essential oils are generally contraindicated for all therapeutic uses." Her list includes Fennel. She continues: "These oils all contain toxic constituents." She lists Fennel as one to avoid if prone to epilepsy and then writes: ". . . although there is no published report of any of these triggering a seizure." (Note that the "toxic constituent" Buckle refers to in Fennel is a ketone - see Battaglia's note above.)

The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless: Fennel is "non-irritant, relatively non-toxic, narcotic in large doses . . ."

Clary Sage is indicated by some to be avoided during pregnancy, but Ron Guba notes that the "process of pregnancy specifically overrides the menstrual cycle, both physiologically (via the growth of the corpus luteum) and hormonally. Therefore, respecting those [oils] with potential toxicity (such as large oral doses of Rosemary CT camphor), these "emmenagogic" essential oils are quite safe to use during pregnancy."

Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas. Essential oils are both lipophilic and hydrophobic. Lipophilic means they are attracted to fat—like the membranes of your eyes and skin. They are also hydrophobic, meaning they do not like water. Flushing with water may drive the essential oil back to the eye's membranes. Applying a carrier oil will create another fat for the essential oil to be attracted to other than the membranes of the eyes or skin. We've not known this to cause permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your healthcare provider.

*Jasmine Grandiflorum is an absolute from India - Premium quality from the freshest flowers. Jasmine is actually an "essence," not an essential oil. Absolutes are solvent-extracted products. They are produced by a multi-step process that first involves extracting the flower (or other biomass) with a non-polar solvent such as hexane. After the hexane is evaporated, a waxy product is obtained called the concrete. The concrete is then extracted using a polar solvent such as ethanol. The polarity of ethanol allows extraction of the volatile aromatics from the concrete while leaving behind the non-polar plant waxes, which don't dissolve well in ethanol. Finally, the ethanol is evaporated to leave behind the absolute, which will typically have 1-5% ethanol remaining in it and sometimes a trace of hexane, depending on the method used.
