Magi
Frankincense (Boswelia frereana/carterii), Balsam Fir (Abies Balsamea), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)

“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:11) Some researchers believe that the “gold” mentioned here possibly refers to infused fir oil since it is mentioned elsewhere in ancient literature as “gold.” Another possibility is that "gold" referred to a golden flower grown in the region known as helichrysum, which is derived from the Greek words helisso (to turn around) and chrysos (gold). Of course, it's a possibility that "gold" refers to the precious metal. The Frankincense was likely resin, and the myrrh was likely powder. Essential oils as we know them are steam distilled, and true steam distillation is attributed to Avicenna (Ibn Sina), a Persian scientist, in the eleventh century. Aromatic products during ancient times would most likely have been extracted with solvents such as olive oil, which would have produced a different chemistry than distilled oils. In the first century, Dioscorides, a Greek herbalist, wrote a detailed description about obtaining herbal oils by infusing the plant in hot oil for their medicinal properties.

Application Suggestions (See Essential Oil Usage for more information and a Dilution Chart.)
Topical: Dilute with a carrier oilunscented lotion or unscented cream and apply on area of concern or as desired. Consider using a roll-on applicator for ease of application of prediluted oil.

Since Magi does not have a limiting dilution parameter, we suggest that adults follow the General Guidelines found on the Dilution Chart, which is:
2-3% for daily application
Up to 25% for short-term use

Children: For infants and children, please follow the Dilution Chart on the Babies and Children page.

Inhalation: Diffuse or use a personal Nasal Inhaler

Internal: Magi is suitable for internal use within safe parameters if such use is deemed appropriate. We feel that internal use is rarely *needed* and should only be used with respect for how concentrated the oils are. HEO does not advocate internal use of essential oils without appropriate knowledge and understanding of how to administer, for what purpose, how much, which essential oils, safety concerns and so on. In our experience, essential oils are generally more effective used topically with proper dilution or inhaled. Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D. notes that "French aromatherapy literature contains many references to using oils orally." He goes on to note that "generally 1 drop is always enough when ingesting essential oils." A potential toxicity hazard could occur when untrained people use essential oils orally and ingest too much. Keep in mind that while medical doctors or health care practitioners may prescribe essential oils for internal use, they are trained and experienced in the safe application of essential oils. It is not a matter of using "French" or "British" methods, it's a matter of experience and appropriate application.

1. I used the Magi oil for Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. I put a drop in water and had my granddaughter gargle with it. I also rubbed it on the bottoms of her feet several times a day. We diffused Frankincense in the bedroom at night. I chose the Magi blend to gargle instead of just Frankincense because of the Myrrh being helpful for the mouth. It really made a difference. - S.W.

2. Last year I gave your Magi blend as special gifts to many of my co-workers and family members. Without exception, they were all thrilled with it. I can hardly wait to try His Garments. Your blends are fantastic! Thank you so much for all that you do to bless our families with His wonderful oils. - Dana

3. I got Magi as a gift for Christmas and use it to help me study and before tests. Wow, what a neat blend. - Kristy

4. I absolutely love the scent of Magi! Whenever I need my mood lifted, I apply Magi or Mountain Top! - Katy
Safety
Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas. Essential oils are both lipophilic and hydrophobic. Lipophilic means they are attracted to fat— like the membranes of your eyes and skin. They are also hydrophobic, meaning they do not like water. Applying a carrier oil will create another fat for the essential oil to be attracted to other than the membranes of the eyes or skin. Tisserand suggests: "With essential oils, fatty oil has been suggested as an appropriate first aid treatment, though the advantage of saline [eyewash] is that the eyes can be continually flushed, and this is less easy with fatty oil.” We are not aware of a case where essential oil in the eyes caused permanent injury or long-term discomfort, but if you feel concerned, please call your health care provider.
